STEM Week Challenge

STEM - Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths

What a fantastic week of visits and visitors, experiments and investigations, creativity and FUN!  Children visited Liverpool Life Sciences (UTC) to extract DNA from fruit and became 'junior doctors' in the Health Suite.  Some children visited the beach and took part in coastal erosion activities led by parents. Staff from Liverpool University Physics, Biology and Maths departments came into school and provided exciting activities involving germs, balloons and rockets.  Farm Urban, who have supported school throughout the year, came to demonstrate and then help children build hydroponic systems. Class teachers planned lots of extra activities throughout the week - from blowing bubbles through socks to extracting colour from sweets, creating shoebox projectors to designing boats, and making slime into bouncy balls.  We were also able to host a water challenge for Busy Bees Nursery (please see Parents, Pre-School Links) and an afternoon of fun for our Roots and Shoots Toddler Group (please see Parents, Roots and Shoots)  Mrs Groom, Science Co-ordinator, has led a superb week of STEM challenges culminating in a celebration of Science with some of the other Formby primary schools.
