Our Buddy System

Our Buddy system is one of the things that makes St Luke's really special!

Lots of schools buddy up Y6 pupils with reception pupils, but then, of course, Y6 pupils leave.  At St Luke's, our buddies enjoy a three-year relationship.  In Y3, you are not a buddy and do not have a buddy...but you learn how to be a buddy, and it is taken very seriously: it is a great responsibility.  Then, when the Y3 children visit their Y4 teacher towards the end of the school year, they spend time wriitng a letter to a child who will be starting Reception in September.  The letter is posted to the child in the summer holidays, so that they can start to look forward to making memories with their big buddy!

The pair then remain buddies when the older child is in Y4, Y5 and Y6 and the younger one is in Reception, Y1 and Y2.  We walk to church with our buddies, read with our buddies and share lots of other activities, such as autumn walks and orienteering.

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
