A short, fun-filled week of birds, eggs, and flowers!

We hope you had a fantastic bank holiday weekend. As we returned to school on Tuesday, there was a buzz in the air as the children shared wonderful news of their weekend adventures.

This week, one of our focus children is a budding bird enthusiast, and as if by chance, gently tucked away inside a small planter in our storytelling garden lies a newly-formed bird's nest. The children were so excited to learn more about this discovery and had wonderful questions such as “Which bird made the nest?” and “Are there eggs inside?”. We think the bird is a wagtail and is protecting her eggs inside the nest. The children have all made a promise to observe from a safe distance, in the hopes of catching sight of tiny hatchlings!

Our discussion soon turned into how we can be great caretakers of our feathered friends as we researched the types of foods birds need to thrive. Thank you to those who kindly donated old yoghurt pots this week. Reception loved creating handmade bird feeders using birdseed and lard. Please help your child find a suitable location to hang the bird feeder, preferably in a quiet area close to trees or bushes, and keep us updated on any bird visitors you may spot by sharing news or photographs with us at our Reception email address, [email protected]. Thank you.

In Reception, we soak up new knowledge every day, and this week, we have immersed ourselves in the vibrant festivities of Greek culture through the cherished traditions of our focus children’s families. We explored Greek Easter celebrations as we rolled up our sleeves and got to work creating our own paper mache eggs, while our star bakers worked their magic as they chopped and mixed cucumber, garlic, lemon, and Greek yoghurt to create a delicious tzatziki dip, which we enjoyed with crispy pita bread and crunchy vegetables.

We’re thrilled to share that the children’s hard work has been rewarded as tiny green shoots have begun to sprout, signalling the beginning of exciting growth to come! Our green fingers have been busy again this week, as we each planted a sunflower seed. As we planted our seeds, we discussed the three things our seeds need to grow: water, sunlight, and soil. Reception is learning that with dedication and care, even the tiniest seed can grow into something magnificent!

This week's Speed Minute, Red Word, and ‘Special Friends, Fred Talk’ films are:

Thank you to those who have handed in £6 for this term's snack money. It really does go a long way in providing healthy and delicious treats for the children.

Have a lovely, sunny weekend, everybody.

The Reception Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
