Reception Weekly Blog (11.10.24)

Date: 11th Oct 2024 @ 12:39pm

We must start by saying a huge well done to our wonderful Reception children. They made us immensely proud on Monday, walking to church so beautifully with their Y4 Buddy for the first time. The children remembered all the rules for road safety and how we walk sensibly to our Church. A special mention to our fantastic Y3 friends for their Harvest assembly - we loved the songs and prayers. The children enjoyed talking about their favourite part of the day when we returned to school.

Inspired by the Harvest Festival, we took a trip to the school vegetable patch on Tuesday. We explored the garden to find all the wonderful things that grow, which we are always grateful for. We found some beautiful autumn leaves on the way back so spent the afternoon painting and rubbing with wax crayons.

Later in the week we read the story of ‘Oliver’s Vegetables’, we enjoyed passing round a colourful basket of veggies to explore with our senses. The children impressed us with the vocabulary they used to describe the vegetables and they asked some amazing questions. Including; where do these vegetables grow? So, we put our scissor skills to the test and worked together as a team to organise the veg into what grows above the ground and what grows below.

The children arrived at school on Thursday with their odd socks, to mark World Mental Health Day. Wearing our odd socks will help raise awareness of mental health issues around the world.

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
