Recycling superstars!
We have been so impressed with how enthusiastic the children have been in their own learning this week. Inspired by stories ‘Somebody Swallowed Stanley’ and ‘Stella and the Seagull’, the children have explored plastic pollution, recycling and protecting the environment.
On Monday, we discussed the dangers of plastic waste and its impact on wildlife. On Wednesday we went on a litter pick, and then sorted the litter into groups of what can be recycled and what cannot. On Thursday, we had lots of fun designing posters to display around our school as part of our ‘put it in the bin’ campaign!
In maths, the children were introduced to number 14, and are continuing to develop their understanding of each number having a value of ‘1 more than’ the previous number, and ‘1 less than’ the following number. We looked at images of the Numberblocks, alongside the children’s own fingers to represent ‘5 and a bit’ quantities. At home, why not play a game of ‘bunny ears’ with your child – can they show you 6 using 5 fingers on one hand, and 1 on the other? Talk about how 5 and 1 more makes 6 altogether. Repeat in and out of order for numbers 7-10.
Next week, we will begin to look beyond our planet and blast ‘out of this World’ as we enter British Science Week (11-20th March 2022). We would love to zoom to the moon! If you have any large cardboard boxes destined to be recycled space rockets, we would be very grateful!
We are so excited to celebrate our Golden Ticket achievement on Monday by having a ‘dress up’ day (animals, superheroes, characters etc). Please be mindful that your child needs to be warm and safe in their costumes with sensible footwear please.
We are also so excited for our class trip to ‘Imagine That!’ on Thursday. Children to wear their full school uniform please.
Have a fantastic weekend everyone. The Reception Team :)
