A busy, busy week in Reception!
We can’t quite believe how fast the weeks are going and how much the children are learning.
Inspired by the pattern of a snail shell found inside our tadpole tank, we’ve had fun this week learning all about spirals. We used ribbons, chalks and water to create large-scale drawings in the ROLA and explored how drawing can involve our whole body. We then took our spiral skills inside, and created a charcoal spiral in our Art sketchbooks. Next week, we look forward to developing our drawing skills by adding different coloured chalk between the lines of the spiral, blending and smudging the colours to create independent designs.
Reception have been working really hard to develop their learning and understanding of life cycles. This week, we had a very exciting delivery of Painted Lady Butterfly Caterpillars, which the children have been captivated by, watching them grow from about 1cm long to 4cm long in only a couple of days. We have each designed our own caterpillar diary to observe and record our findings. Stay tuned to see what happens next!
The children have also had lots of opportunity this week to develop their independence, motor skills and language skills through a ‘rolling snack’ within Reception. This involves the children choosing when they would like their snack, and serving themselves. Children poured their own drinks and even washed their own dishes! The children love having their own independence and thought washing up was lots of fun! Please continue to send your child into school with a water bottle, especially as the weather begins to heat up!
We hope you have a fantastic weekend,
The Reception Team
