One more week to go…

We arrived on Monday ready to introduce our experts for this week. In Pinewoods classroom we had Margot teaching us all about Cats and Christmas. Over in Sand Dunes classroom the focus moved to Christmas, we engaged in lots of role play; the Christmas decorations shop was a big hit. The children have loved exploring the children’s interests this week and we look forward to meeting our final experts of 2024 next week.

In our reading and writing sessions, we continue to focus on reading speed sounds at speed:

and reading CVC words independently: https://schools.ruthmiskin.com/training/view/bTJiO7ji/cOv9YCaG have a go at this new virtual classroom video, Joshua is reading words using ‘Fred Talk’.

The expectation for the end of Autumn term is for all children to be able to read all set 1 sounds and special friends, as well as being able to read CVC words independently. Please continue to use your speed sound cards to over-learn those sounds and special friends, you also need to be reading green words as often as you can to speed up reading.

This week, we have enjoyed learning about The Nativity, the children learnt about the story that follows Mary and Joseph from being told they will have a baby by the angel Gabriel, through to the birth of Jesus and the visits from the shepherds and wise men. We were blown away by the Y2 performance of The Nativity and used small world to recrate the story throughout the week.

On Thursday, we had a really exciting visit from our lovely Year 4 buddies. The children were thrilled to share a homemade cookie with their buddy, as part of their DT work they planned, created and made some truly delicious treats and we enjoyed sharing them together. Take a look at our photos below, it was really good fun spending time with them and we look forward to getting together again soon.

Don’t forget it is Christmas Takeover Day on Tuesday 17th, children can come to school in festive clothing/ accessories to take part. Term ends on Friday 20th at 2pm.

Thank you for sending your child to school with a warm coats, gloves and hats. Please try to name all belongings as lots of items are getting left or misplaced.

Please continue to send us your good news (no matter how big, or small) we love to share it as a class and it is so pleasing to see your children stand at the front and talk about their news [email protected]

Enjoy your weekend,

The Reception Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
