Reception Weekly Blog (13.9.24)

Date: 13th Sep 2024 @ 4:07pm

Our first full week in Reception draws to an end...

The children arrived refreshed on Monday and continued to settle into their new routines, they are beginning to learn everyone’s name - which is a difficult task!

We have had a really lovely week talking about what makes us special. We have spoken about our class being a family. How each one of us is special and how our differences make us unique. We are working really well as a team, our daily circle times have allowed us to learn more about each other and test our turn taking skills. We have thoroughly enjoyed snack time tasting lots of different things and exploring our lovely play space during the week.

On Monday, we started to learn our individual sounds through Read, Write, Inc. The children have worked incredibly hard to learn 25 pictures so far, they should be very proud of themselves. Take a look at the following video over the weekend and see how many pictures you can name together, some sounds are ‘bouncy sounds’ and some are ‘stretchy sounds’. https://schools.ruthmiskin.com/training/view/5vCZ9HFP/GmYLwSRV

Next week the children will learn the individual sounds, in preparation for this we are asking you to familiarise yourself with this video, it demonstrates how to pronounce the sounds correctly in preparation for reading. https://schools.ruthmiskin.com/training/view/QHd4x9eG/i3GyEZyt

On Friday we met our buddies for the first time! The children were absolutely delighted to finally meet up with the friend they received a letter from over the summer holidays, we chatted, laughed and shared some of our favourite books together throughout the afternoon. We look forward to meeting them again soon, take a look at our pictures below.

Your child is now the proud owner of their very own reading folder, they will have picked a reading book for the first time today. They are excited about sharing their school books with you. Books are changed every Friday and we ask for a small comment to be made in the reading record each week.

Next week, we will begin to send home the initial sounds learnt in class, we ask that you practise a sound a night and keep the home learning sheet at home. If you have purchased your speed sound cards through ‘School Spider’ they will be coming home next week.

Don’t forget we have our ‘Reception open afternoon’ next week. This is a lovely opportunity for you to come and see how happy and settled your little one is at St. Luke’s, and play together for a short while. Please refer to your ‘School Visit Checklist’ for dates and times, your child is free to leave with you through the ROLA after your visit.

We have loved sharing our ‘good news’ with the class and can’t wait to see what you have all been up to over the weekend, send any wow moments our way using the email address [email protected]

Have a fantastic weekend,

The Reception Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
