Happy Friday, all!
What a fantastic week it’s been in Reception!
A big thank you to our experts this week, we loved learning with Stanley and Harriet. In Pinewoods classroom we had Stanley teaching the children all about his love of being in the garden, we learnt how a flower grows, what it needs and even got the chance to scatter some seeds in our flower beds. Over in Sand Dunes classroom the focus moved to Harriet; the children have learnt so much about her love of cats, we learnt about house cats and wild cats. The children love exploring different interests each week and we cannot wait to learn about more fascinating things next week.
We kicked off the week with a burst of excitement, celebrating British Science Week 2025. The theme of the week was "chance and adapt," which sparked some incredible discussions with the children. We explored ideas like how things change — such as the seasons — and how other things adapt — like animals and buildings.
The week wouldn’t have been complete without a science discovery adventure at ‘Imagine That,’ and what an unforgettable day it was! The children’s faces were full of excitement as they took part in every activity with such enthusiasm. From start to finish, they were truly engaged, and we are so proud of our budding scientists. We hope you all managed to catch up on sleep on Wednesday night — we certainly did! The day at ‘Imagine That’ was packed with fun activities, starting with making snow and exploring bubbles, scarf tunnels, and water play. The children were fascinated by the science show, then got hands-on creating slime and bath bombs — which, as you can imagine, was a real highlight! After a well-deserved lunch break, the creativity continued as the children painted their own magnets and created layers upon layers of paint on the infamous ‘underwater street car.’ We ended the day in the role-play village, where imaginations ran wild as the children took on the roles of pizza chefs, vets, firefighters, builders, and even hair stylists.
We hope you enjoy looking through the photos together and reliving these special moments.
On Thursday, we were thrilled to see the new sandpit had been built! The children couldn’t wait to dive in, and we’re sure it will provide endless fun, especially when the weather warms up and the water pump is put to good use.
In our maths sessions this week, we met the number 10 — and the children could hardly contain their excitement! They’ve been chatting eagerly about numbers, discussing things like “what do you notice?” and “how do you see it?” as they’ve explored the different ways to make 10. We’re looking forward to next week when we dive into the world of odd and even numbers!
The Reading Scrapbook has had some amazing contributions, we are passionate about encouraging children to read for pleasure, and the scrapbook is a great way for them to share their thoughts on their favourite books. Please help your child choose a book, write a review, and feel free to include a picture, the book’s cover, or a photo of you reading together. Let your creativity shine! Don’t forget to share what makes the book special to your child—whether it’s a family favourite, their very first book, or simply a funny story they love. Please complete just one page in the scrapbook and return it in the canvas bag, so we can pass it on to the next child.
Next week, we’ll be celebrating St. Patrick’s Day on Monday, and we can’t wait to share the fun with the children. Have a wonderful weekend, everyone, and we’ll see you on Monday for another exciting week ahead!
In our reading and writing sessions, we continue to focus on reading speed sounds at speed, in the spring term we start to see children ‘Fred in their head’, where the child whispers the sounds before blending them together to say a word. We are continuing to use ‘Fred talk, read the word’ when reading new green words: https://schools.ruthmiskin.com/training/view/rmmlVk36/vxO2OYcT have a go at this new virtual classroom video, Zain is reading words using ‘Fred Talk’.Please keep practising your Red Words, take a look at the following video where Rosie helps the children spot the tricky part of the word, using the phrase tricky letter! https://schools.ruthmiskin.com/training/view/pRgo0eu6/l7vhx1w5
Please continue to send us your good news (no matter how big, or small) we love to share it as a class and it is so pleasing to see your children stand at the front and talk about their news [email protected]
We hope you have a wonderful weekend,
The Reception Team
