Happy Friday, everyone!

We arrived on Monday ready to introduce our new experts. In Pinewoods classroom we had Hudson teaching us all about the 777 Merseyrail Trains as well as football. Over in Sand Dunes classroom the focus moved to Oliver, who was an expert in his field; the children have learnt so much about Rugby and The Solar System. The children love exploring different interests each week and we cannot wait to learn about more fascinating things next week.

On Monday, we were so excited to meet Oliver’s Daddy, he helped us learn more about rugby and taught us some of the basic skills we need to get involved, the children all brought home a leaflet giving you more information about where and when they can join in some sessions. We were amazed at their participation and some of the skills that were displayed. After our rugby session Oliver’s Daddy taught us about The Solar System, we learnt the names of the planets as well as some of their properties. We were lucky enough to see a telescope, the children learnt how they could use a telescope to further explore the planets.

All of our wishes came true on Thursday evening, when we looked up into the evening sky and saw not one but three planets…just like Oliver’s Daddy told us!

On Wednesday we were treated to another sporty session from Hudson’s Daddy, who plays for Southport FC. Hudson’s Daddy spent some time with the children talking about the best parts of being a footballer and answering some great questions. We learned how to warm up correctly, we even got to score some goals! Please look out for a very exciting Spider Message following on from this visit.

We also had our first Golden Ticket Celebration on Wednesday, the children looked so super cosy in their pyjamas. We enjoyed some tasty snacks and watched ‘Trolls’ in the afternoon.

We were delighted to meet our first Secret Storytellers on Friday, a fantastic choice of books too… ‘The Lion Inside’ and ‘Peace at last’ were loved by all. We can’t wait to meet our next ‘Secret Storytellers’ on Friday. If this is something you/ your family members would be interested in please email us at [email protected]

In our reading and writing sessions, we continue to focus on reading speed sounds at speed, in the spring term we start to see children ‘Fred in their head’, where the child whispers the sounds before blending them together to say a word.

We are continuing to use ‘Fred talk, read the word’ when reading new green words: https://schools.ruthmiskin.com/training/view/Bsm9Oilf/euKrhxHC

have a go at this new virtual classroom video, Maya is reading words using ‘Fred Talk’.

Please keep practising your Red Words, take a look at the following video where Rosie helps the children spot the tricky part of the word, using the phrase tricky letter!

Please continue to send us your good news (no matter how big, or small) we love to share it as a class and it is so pleasing to see your children stand at the front and talk about their news [email protected]

See you next week!

The Reception Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
