Spring has sprung!

What a beautiful, sunny week. We are more than ready for this warmer weather!

A big thank you to our experts this week, we loved learning with Eve and Harry. In Pinewoods classroom we had Eve teaching the children all about her love of cats and vegetables, we learnt all about different types of vegetables and Eve’s beloved cats at home. We even got the chance to plat our own seed potatoes, we look forward to seeing them grow over the next month. Over in Sand Dunes classroom the focus moved to Harry; the children have learnt so much about Texas where Harry and his family used to live, we learnt about LFC and his love of football. The children love exploring different interests each week and we cannot wait to learn about more fascinating things next week.

On Monday, we had a wonderful day celebrating St. Patrick’s Day, we had the opportunity to make our own clover collage. We spoke about our own celebrations at home like making green biscuits to share. The children had a chance to explore where Ireland is in relation to where we live.

On Tuesday, our focus in RE moved to the Easter Story. We have been so impressed with how the children have engaged in conversations around Easter. We spoke about how Easter is a happy time and some of us may receive eggs from the Easter bunny. But, it is so important to know the real reason. That when Jesus died his body was put in a tomb and a big stone was put over the entrance so nobody could get in. Two days later, Jesus's friend Mary went to the tomb and discovered that the stone had been rolled away and Jesus's body was gone. At first Mary was really sad, who had taken her friend? But then she heard a voice, she turned around and saw Jesus, he was alive! Mary ran off to tell all of Jesus's friends that he'd come back to life. For many days afterwards, Jesus met with Mary and his friends, he talked with them and ate with them, and taught them lots of things. Then he went home to heaven.

We look forward to watching our Year 4 friends in their Easter service at Church on Thursday 3rd April.

In our maths sessions this week, we had an in-depth focus on number 6, the children spent their sessions learning how to spot ‘is it 6 or not 6’. We used tens frames to show 6 in many different ways. The children worked in perfect partners to find different ways to display 6 using counters. We explored odd and even numbers in provision and we look forward to solving more maths problems next week.

The Reading Scrapbook has had some amazing contributions, we are passionate about encouraging children to read for pleasure, and the scrapbook is a great way for them to share their thoughts on their favourite books. Please help your child choose a book, write a review, and feel free to include a picture, the book’s cover, or a photo of you reading together. Let your creativity shine! Don’t forget to share what makes the book special to your child—whether it’s a family favourite, their very first book, or simply a funny story they love. Please complete just one page in the scrapbook and return it in the canvas bag, so we can pass it on to the next child.

In our reading and writing sessions, we continue to focus on reading speed sounds at speed, in the spring term we start to see children ‘Fred in their head’, where the child whispers the sounds before blending them together to say a word.

We are continuing to use ‘Fred talk, read the word’ when reading new green words:

Please keep practising your Red Words, take a look at the following video where Rosie helps the children spot the tricky part of the word, using the phrase tricky letter!

We rounded off our week by learning all about Red Nose Day, and how doing “something funny for money!” can help people around the world who are less fortunate than ourselves. Imagine not having a warm bed, any food in the cupboards, running water or someone to care for you. The children are beginning to realise how lucky they are and how simple acts of kindness can really make a big difference. We had so much fun and the children delighted in parading their red clothes in a super fashion show. What a way to end the week!

Next week, we’ll be learning about Spring and the celebrations to come over the next week, Mothering Sunday and Eid Have a wonderful weekend, everyone, and we’ll see you on Monday for another wonderful week!

Please continue to send us your good news (no matter how big, or small) we love to share it as a class and it is so pleasing to see your children stand at the front and talk about their news [email protected]

Have a great weekend,

The Reception Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
