Reception Weekly Blog (2.12.22)
Date: 2nd Dec 2022 @ 3:22pm
Reception have really enjoyed learning all about Antarctica this week, what the climate is like and finding out about some of the animals which live there. We discovered that Antarctica is home to the penguin species. We have loved reading the story of ‘The Emperor’s Egg’ by Martin Jenkins, which tells the tale of a male penguin who is caring for his egg. The children were amazed to learn that the male penguins stand for two whole months with an egg on their feet, and no dinner!
The children have even moved like a colony of penguins this week in the ROLA, waddling around icebergs and glaciers, and even up the hill to toboggan down on our tummies – we make excellent penguins here in Reception!
During English this week, we introduced the children to ‘Fred fingers’, the technique we use to help the children spell CVC words. Ask your child to show you how they pinch the sounds in ‘dad’, ‘mad’, ‘sad’, ‘sat’ and ‘mat’.
We introduced number seven this week, the children have had so much fun singing the seven days of the week song and finding all things seven. See what number seven things you can find this week, we would love to hear about it on a good news slip!
Next week we look forward to learning more about winter, and reflecting upon the season of Advent.
Have a wonderful weekend everyone.
