A sunny and bright, fun-filled week in Reception

What a wonderful week we’ve had in Reception! Our days have been filled with exciting activities, learning, and lots of fun, all under the shining sun. Here’s a peek into what we’ve been up to:

Following the lead of two of our focus children, we kicked off the week with some energetic tennis sessions in the ROLA. The children had a fantastic time learning basic tennis skills, from holding the racket correctly to hitting the ball with precision. Everyone gave it their all. Wimbledon; here we come!

With Sports Day just around the corner, we’ve been busy preparing for the big event! On Monday, we discussed as a class what happens during the day, and spoke about the importance of trying our very best, having fun, and cheering each other on. The children have been working on their running, obstacle, and relay skills. It’s been great to see their encouragement for one another. We look forward to seeing those who are able to join us at Range High School, on Monday 1st July. Please could children come to school on this day wearing a plain white t-shirt, navy blue shorts and their usual socks and trainers. Each child also needs to bring their water bottle to school, and a waterproof coat is vital!

The safety of your child is paramount to us as we enjoy the morning. Please be mindful that at no point should you cross the track to speak to your child. If there is anything you need to hand over, please speak with a member of staff. We will ensure Reception give big waves as we head back to school in time for lunch. Range High School gates will open at 9:15am. We advise bringing a chair or blanket to sit on (and an umbrella!) as you enjoy the races.

The sunny weather this week has helped keep our classrooms warm and bright, perfect for our little caterpillars, who continue to grow and transform. Inside the cup, the children have been fascinated to observe the webbing which the caterpillars have left behind as they crawl up and down, preparing to pupate (become chrysalides).

In our Maths sessions this week, we’ve revisited all of the knowledge we have from our previous learning about 2D shapes, and begun to explore 3D shapes. We have been busy identifying shapes such as pyramids, cones, cubes, spheres, and cylinders. We’ve had fun building with 3D shapes and discovering where we can see 3D shapes in our everyday lives. On Wednesday the children thoroughly enjoyed a 3D shape hunt in our ROLA, spotting shapes which had been hidden and also the shapes of existing objects. What 3D shapes can the children find hidden at home this weekend?

Another week full of learning, and lots of joy! The sun has been shining brightly, adding an extra touch of adventure to our days. We look forward to more Sports Day practice next week, along with lots of outdoor learning and fun. Have a wonderful weekend, everyone.

The Reception Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
