Happy Half Term, everyone!

We hope the children have a well-deserved week of relaxation. They really have worked their socks off over the last 8 weeks. We are so proud of each and everyone of them. See you in November!

The ‘Special Friends’ we have learned this week:

After a blustery weekend, we arrived back to school to a carpet of leaves in the ROLA – the children had a great time collecting the leaves, with the brushes and rakes and putting them all in the green bin.

Pumpkins were the main focus in provision this week. The children loved exploring the pulp with magnifying glasses, scoops and tweezers. They expanded their vocabulary by describing how the pumpkin felt and discussed what it looked like to their friends. The children were engrossed in picking the seeds out and collecting them, we are hoping to sow them in Spring time and see what may emerge.

Throughout the rest of the week we developed our gross motor and fine motor skills, by rolling down the hill like pumpkins and hammering golf tees into pumpkins in the classroom. We gathered some small elastic bands, we found out that if we stretched with our fingers and thumbs we could wrap them around the tees.

The children were introduced to the number 2 this week, they have seen how two is made from one and another one. We spoke as a group about what we can see 2 of; 2 socks, 2 shoes, 2 best friends. We spoke about the 2D shapes with 2 sides being a semi-circle, with one straight side and one curved side. They are all proud owners of their own ‘number 2 poster’ showcasing their knowledge.

Now we have learned all the set 1 speed sounds and come to the end of learning the special friends, we are encouraging the children to ‘Fred talk, read the word’. Please take some time to watch the following video https://schools.ruthmiskin.com/training/view/ub631vwR/UdZKQFEl which shows us how we start blending sounds together to make words.

We love sharing our ‘good news’ with the class and can’t wait to see what you have all been up to over the half term break, send any wow moments (no matter how big or small) our way using the email address [email protected]

When we return in November our focus will be on ‘fire and ice’ as we continue to follow the children’s interests around Bonfire Night, and how we can stay safe around fire.

Enjoy your week everyone!

The Reception Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
