Reception Weekly Blog (26.5.23)

Date: 26th May 2023 @ 4:52pm

A wonderful end to a busy half term!

We have had a fun-filled week, with lots of outdoor learning and water fun in the sun! We particularly enjoyed soaking our feet in a big bowl of soapy water. What a lovely relaxing way to engage in good quality conversation with friends! Needless to say, water went everywhere but the sun soon dried us off and the children thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

We have also carried out our phonics assessment this week and are amazed by the progress each child is making. Thank you for all of your help and support at home because it really does make a difference. You will find in your child’s book bag, a sheet of ‘nonsense’ or ‘alien’ words. Please practice them as often as you can, in short, sharp burst to enable your child to build fluency in their reading.

In Maths this week, we have been exploring odd and even numbers. We introduced the concept by using two teddies, and explaining that two is an even number because "this teddy has a friend". We then placed another teddy by themselves, and said that this teddy is the odd one out, because they don't have a friend. This is a really simple and visual way to explain odd and even numbers which you can also try at home!

Have a restful and enjoyable half term break everyone. We will see you all back at school on Wednesday 7th June.

The Reception Team :)

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
