Reception Weekly Blog 28.6.24

Date: 29th Jun 2024 @ 9:11pm

What an exciting week we’ve had in Reception!

We kicked off our week by investigating which objects float and which sink. The children thoroughly enjoyed making their predictions, and then watching as various items either floated on top of the water or sank straight to the bottom! It was lovely to see every child so engaged, watching with such anticipation. There were even cheers when we got our predictions right!

Following on our floating theme, we introduced the story of Noah’s Ark. Some children were inspired to make their own boats using the junk modelling materials in the workshop. We then took them into the ROLA for a test sail, which led to some exciting moments! Some boats floated proudly, while others tipped or sank, sparking some brilliant conversations about what makes an object float.

In cooking this week, the children created refreshing cucumber boats, by scooping out cucumber halves as the base, then adding cream cheese and a crisp for the sail. Delicious!

Reception had a happy morning on Friday as they explored their new Year One classrooms and outdoor learning environment. A big step for all! In your child’s book bag, you will find a class list for Year One. We are saying goodbye to a couple of children and welcoming new friends too. Mrs. Page was unfortunately unwell on Friday, and will spend time with her new class once she has returned from her illness. We’ve planned another visit to Year One on Thursday, and are working closely with Mrs. Page and Mr. Hatton to ensure a successful and exciting new phase of their school journey.

Sports day is quickly approaching, and the children have been working hard to perfect their zigzag running, beanbag balancing, and relay running skills. We have been so impressed with how well the children have taken to practising for the big day. All children have shown fantastic enthusiasm and team spirit, cheering each other on as we try our best.

For those who are able to join us, races will begin on Monday 1st July, at 9:30am at Range High School. Children will arrive back at school in time for lunch. Children are welcome to come to school wearing a white T-shirt, their usual navy shorts or joggers and trainers. For the safety of everyone, please do not walk across the track to see your child at any point during the day. If you have a concern about anything, please speak to a member of staff who will be happy to help. Fingers crossed it’s a dry day!

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone.

The Reception Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
