Bang, Sizzle, Whoosh!
This week, we have been learning all about fire safety in preparation for Bonfire Night. We have spoken lots about the importance of staying with our grown-ups, wearing safe clothing and taking care if we are going out and about to enjoy the displays. We created beautiful fireworks pictures using paint and glitter, thinking about all of the sounds that fireworks make.
Something extra special happened on Thursday… a fire engine arrived at school! With huge thanks to Merseyside Fire and Rescue for helping us organise such an exciting visit, the children loved listening to the fire fighters and we all had a turn on the hose that is used to put out real fires. We had so much fun and Miss Pooley had even more fun when she was able to wear one of the uniforms!! Take a look at the photos we have attached below.
We have really enjoyed talking about the festival of light this week, also known as ‘Diwali’, and its special music and dances. The children created their very own musical dance using colourful ribbons as ‘fireworks’, to help celebrate the start of the festival.
As we come to the end of learning our single letter sounds, it is vital that the children are able to recall all of the sounds at speed. The children are trying so hard to remember the sounds taught so far, lots of practice at home is invaluable. This week, we introduced the sound ‘w’ with a wriggly delivery of live worms for our ROLA wormery! The children were so excited to put the worms into their new home and it is wonderful to watch them observe how the worms make tunnels and holes into the soil.
We ended our busy week with an afternoon of ‘Buddy Time’ on Friday, where our Year 4 buddies shared a story with us, before playing fun games in the ROLA.
Have a brilliant weekend everyone. We can’t wait to see you on Monday.
