Reception Weekly Blog (5.7.24)

Reception has been busy this week!

Despite a rainy start on Monday, and all feeling a little disappointed when Sports Day had to be postponed, Reception showed just how resilient they can be! We danced, and played games and realised that when things have to change, it doesn’t mean we can’t have fun anyway. The best news is that we have rescheduled our Sports Day to Wednesday 10th July, 9:30am at Range High School, so we get to look forward to it all over again!

To keep our sporting spirits high, Reception were so lucky to have a special visit from a real tennis coach! A big thank you to Oli, who spent time with the children on Wednesday teaching us more about one of our favourite sports, including what the teeny tiny numbers mean on the rackets, and inspiring us all to have a go at new things!

In Maths, we have explored lines of symmetry this week. We learned that something is symmetrical when it is the same on both sides. We had great fun noticing the symmetrical patterns on the wings of our class butterflies! Each child created their own symmetrical piece of art by painting one wing of a butterfly and then folding their paper in half to print the symmetrical pattern. The children were all so fascinated and proud when peeling back their artwork. We are all artists in Reception!

After watching our butterflies grow from hungry little caterpillars, to building their chrysalis, and finally emerging as a beautiful butterfly, it was amazing to see them spread their wings and fly away on Friday! The children were in awe as the creatures, which they have cared for so brilliantly, took flight in our school meadow, resting and feeding on the flowers all around us. A fantastic way to end another wonderful week.

Next week, we look forward to learning more about our world, as we discover faraway countries linked to the lives of our focus children. As well as preparing all over again for Sports Day, and celebrating our final few weeks in Reception! The children have grown into independent little learners, and we can’t say enough how proud we are of them all.

Have a sunny weekend, everyone!

The Reception Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
