The countdown to Christmas is on!
We arrived on Monday ready to introduce our experts for this week. In Sand Dunes classroom we had Presley teaching us all about Dinosaurs and Jujitsu. Over in Pinewoods classroom the focus moved to celebrations at this time of year, we spoke about birthdays; why we have them and how people around the world celebrate them. The children have loved exploring the children’s interests this week and we look forward to meeting our new experts next week.
In our reading and writing sessions, we continue to focus on reading speed sounds at speed:
https://schools.ruthmiskin.com/training/view/Ka9KuLSy/rmndqnTL
and reading CVC words independently: https://schools.ruthmiskin.com/training/view/Kdq7mlMM/ZfRwLhaE have a go at this new virtual classroom video, Zain is reading words using ‘Fred Talk’.
Please continue to use your speed sound cards to over-learn those sounds and special friends, it is also beneficial to practise reading green words as often as you can to speed up reading. If you have misplaced yours or have any questions please do not hesitate to email us.
In maths we have worked really hard to isolate our fingers to show numbers within 5, the children are getting really speed at showing their ‘fast fingers’ to show an amount. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PSlA-u_ABmU the children are learning to subitise, using their ‘counting eyes’ to say the amount in the set. We were blown away in our maths sessions towards the end of the week, when the children found groups of 1, 2 and 3 with every day objects. When you are preparing your fruit/ veg over the weekend, see what groups your child can see. We have spoken a lot to the children about “what can you see?” and “how do you see it?”.
On Monday we had a lovely visit from Mrs. Gregory, who is a children’s author, Christine read the children a story from her latest book, Mrs. Paws and the tumbledown fairies.
This week, we have enjoyed learning about Advent, the period of preparation for the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ at Christmas. We had a very special visit from a Mummy and her baby. The children asked some amazing questions and spoke about what it must have been like for Mary and Joseph to travel by donkey to a stable, compared to traveling to a hospital in a car! We read the Nativity story from our children’s Bible, and spoke about how all babies change the world and life of people around them, as did Jesus. The children look forward to watching Y2 perform in their nativity next week.
Thank you to everyone who sent in a baby photo, the children loved seeing their younger self and comparing photographs with their friends. We loved guessing who the pictures belonged to and they now have pride of place in our Reception floor book.
Don’t forget it is The Santa Dash on Monday, children are to come to school in trainers and festive clothing/ accessories to take part. Christmas jumper day is Wednesday 11th, children can come to school in something festive!
Thank you for sending your child to school with a warm coats, gloves and hats. Please try to name all belongings as lots of items are getting left or misplaced.
Please continue to send us your good news (no matter how big, or small) we love to share it as a class and it is so pleasing to see your children stand at the front and talk about their news [email protected]
Have a great weekend,
The Reception Team
