Welcome back, everyone!

It was wonderful to welcome the children back after a well-deserved break. They have returned refreshed and ready for the challenges of the second half of autumn term.

We have learnt the remaining special friends in set 1:

Please continue to practise as much sound blending as you can at home. https://schools.ruthmiskin.com/training/view/oB2SL7j1/aDUkc3xz

Including reading the green words we sent home before half term.
The children have now moved into their RWI phonic groups, they are split into 5 groups which will rotate throughout the year.

When the children arrived on Monday, we were engrossed in the joy of fireworks. Of course, we spoke about the beautiful colours that light up our sky and the wonderful shapes they make. But we couldn’t enjoy these discussions without focusing on how we can keep safe at bonfires and firework displays, as well as how we can keep other people safe. We were very proud of the children when they discussed how some people and our animals don’t like loud noises and we should be respectful if we are to have fireworks in our communities.

The children have engaged in imaginative play outside, using large pieces of ribbon and material to make themselves into a ‘firework’ zooming through the sky. They were keen to demonstrate how they would move sparklers safely at home, too. Many of the children took on the role of a ‘firefighter’ rushing to put out fires and saving people from buildings.

It was only right to talk about our fantastic emergency services this week, to learn together about the wonderful job they do. Over the next few weeks, we will enjoy learning about the people who help us. To help the children learn about all the amazing professionals who risk their lives every day to keep us safe.

We well and truly ‘rocked out’ on Friday when we were treated to a Rock Kidz special, the dedication to the children’s outfits was amazing. We had an absolute scream in the hall, learning all about this year’s theme; never quit! A skill even our youngest children need to foster, never give up. We hope you enjoy looking through the photos below.

We can’t wait to carry on exploring the theme of ‘people who help us’ next week as we honour the men, women and animals who fought for us. We will decorate poppies, wear them with pride and attend a very special assembly led by our Year 6 friends.

Have a great weekend everyone,

The Reception Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
