Reception Weekly Blog 8.7.22
Date: 8th Jul 2022 @ 3:08pm
This week, our activities have been inspired by the story ‘The Snail and The Whale’ by Julia Donaldson, and ‘Matisse’s Magical Trail’ by Tim Hopgood and Sam Boughton.
In art, we have explored spiral patterns on snail shells and encouraged children to understand that making a drawing is a physical activity which uses the whole body. On Tuesday, we used silk scarfs whilst moving our bodies to create spirals in the ROLA, before experimenting with oil pastels and chalk to make spiral drawings in our sketchbooks.
After our sports day was postponed this week due to wet weather, we decided to hold our own snail races! This sparked lots of conversation using descriptive vocabulary when comparing size, distance and pattern.
In RE, the children were introduced to the Islamic story ‘The Prophet and the Ants’ which had a very important message: no matter how small or large the animals are, they are all important to God. The children listened carefully to the story and each spoke about how to care for animals, including their own pets and the tiny creatures with who we share our world.
Our butterflies were ready to spread their wings on Thursday as the children released them into the Meadow Garden. We discussed the changes we had observed and talked about how the butterfly life cycle can continue.
Next week, we look forward to sunny weather as we take part in our Reception and KS1 sports day on Monday morning, followed by a fun-filled afternoon of water play for our Golden Ticket celebration. Children to come to school wearing their PE kits and trainers please, with a change of clothes to go home in after making a big splash!
Have a lovely weekend everyone, The Reception Team.
