Happy Friday everyone!

Can you believe there's only one week left before the end of the spring term? They really do fly by, don’t they?

We've had such a busy and exciting week! On Monday, we were joined by our two new experts for the week. In Sand Dunes Classroom, we had Evie, and in Pinewoods Classroom, we had Freddie. It was great to see them both! In Pinewoods Freddie enjoyed teaching the children all about his love of marble run, trains and the Lake District. Over in Sand Dunes classroom the focus moved to Evie; the children have learnt so much about her love of ballroom dancing, we learnt about different dances such as the Cha Cha Cha and The Waltz. The children love exploring different interests each week and we cannot wait to learn about more fascinating things next week.

On Tuesday, we continued our learning about Easter. The children listened attentively to the Bible story and even enjoyed a scrumptious hot cross bun during the afternoon. They loved discovering that the cross on the bun symbolizes Jesus' sacrifice for us. We’d love to see what signs of spring and Easter you can find over the weekend!

Wednesday was filled with creativity as we explored colour mixing with our fingers to create beautiful blossom pictures. The children observed a gorgeous cherry blossom tree before deciding on the perfect colours to bring their own version to life on paper.

Friday brought lots of fun as we celebrated ‘Wear a Hat Day’ to raise money for brain tumour research. Thank you all for your wonderful contributions to this cause. This charity is especially meaningful to us, and we truly appreciate your support.

Looking ahead, we are excited to welcome everyone back on Monday morning for another busy week. On Monday, we’ll be celebrating Eid, a very important occasion for some of our families in school. On Thursday, we’ll head to church to celebrate the Easter service, which will be performed by our talented Year 4 buddies. Don’t forget that the term ends early on Friday, 4th April, at 2pm.

In our maths sessions this week, we have been practising seeing ‘5 and a bit’ on ten frames, for numbers from 6-9. The children have been finessing their ‘finger-gnosis’, why don’t you see what your child can show you with their fingers.

The Reading Scrapbook has had some amazing contributions, we are passionate about encouraging children to read for pleasure, and the scrapbook is a great way for them to share their thoughts on their favourite books. Please help your child choose a book, write a review, and feel free to include a picture, the book’s cover, or a photo of you reading together. Let your creativity shine! Don’t forget to share what makes the book special to your child—whether it’s a family favourite, their very first book, or simply a funny story they love. Please complete just one page in the scrapbook and return it in the canvas bag, so we can pass it on to the next child.

A big thank you to our Secret Story Tellers this week, we love having you come into school and share your favourite stories. The children love it too. Please speak to a member of the team if you’d like to get involved in sharing the joy of reading with our youngest of children.

In our reading and writing sessions, we continue to focus on reading speed sounds at speed, in the spring term we start to see children ‘Fred in their head’, where the child whispers the sounds before blending them together to say a word.

We are continuing to use ‘Fred talk, read the word’ when reading new green words:

have a go at this new virtual classroom video, Nell is reading words using ‘Fred Talk’.

Please keep practising your Red Words, take a look at the following video where Rosie helps the children spot the tricky part of the word, using the phrase tricky letter!

Please continue to send us your good news (no matter how big, or small) we love to share it as a class and it is so pleasing to see your children stand at the front and talk about their news [email protected]

Have a wonderful weekend, and we look forward to seeing you all next week!

The Reception Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
