1FO’N Golden Ticket Reward Thursday 16th March 2023 – Mufti/Movie/Popcorn

This week, in maths, the children continued to enjoy practical investigations around measuring, using vocabulary such as tall/taller/tallest short/shorter/shortest, long, longer, longest.

Our big focus this week was our  DT  topic – exploring  mechanisms to make a moving story book.  We have made a good start on our new project!

We enjoyed learning some actions to a ‘Pirate Dance’ on Tuesday afternoon.

In history, we have been finding out about famous pirates and explorers, such as Anne Bonny, Sir Francis Drake and Christopher Columbus.

The children were very excited to go out to play in the middle of the  snowstorm on Thursday. It was still a bit snowy, with lots of big puddles on the playground, so we didn’t go out for our ‘tri golf’  but enjoyed a ‘Cosmic Popcorn Pirate ‘ story instead, after a very busy DT afternoon!

After a snowy start on Friday, the sun shone for us in the afternoon and we enjoyed spending time with our Y5 buddies, observing the seasonal changes around our play areas. A lovely end to a busy week!

Information for Y1 Pirate Day

The children come to school dressed as  pirates, e.g. stripey top, rolled up trousers, bandana etc.. no need to buy a special costume, as both classes have lots of dressing up clothes/accessories to borrow, please just ask staff. Please leave all weapons at home! We plan some fun pirate themed activities on the day…no spoilers!  It is one of our  highlights of the year!

Have a lovely weekend.

The Year One Teamv

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
