                                             Friday 1st March

This week, in maths, the children enjoyed their investigations around measuring, using vocabulary such as tall/taller/tallest short/shorter/shortest, long, longer, longest. They explored with different body parts and ultimately centimetre rulers.

Time was spent discussing the importance of sleep and how restorative it can be. We drew our bedrooms and described them to our friends. We shared our favourite ways to prepare for bed. ZZZ…

We also looked at how St. David’s Day is celebrated in Wales, his life, traditions and special geographical features of the country.

We celebrate World Book Day, next Thursday, and will have fun dressing up as our favourite book characters. Our ‘Milk and Cookies’ evening will continue the fun. An opportunity for the children to come back to school, in their outfits or their PJs, for some bedtime stories.

On Tuesday the 5th March 1FO’N will enjoy their Golden Ticket afternoon. Mrs Fegan has sent information out about it.

We will be having our annual ‘Y1 Pirate Day’ in a few weeks, on Friday 22nd March. Please don’t feel obliged to buy an outfit as we have lots in school.

We have placed a new maths app login into the back of Home Learning Books or yellow Reading Records. Once signed in on DoodleMaths, there are mathematical challenges, games and avatar building for the children to enjoy. Why not take a look?

Have a lovely weekend.

The Year One Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
