What a lovely week we have had in Year 2 and thank goodness the weather has brightened up a little! We are getting back into the swing of things after settling back in last week. We have enjoyed this week coming up with ideas for our modelled write of 'Little Red Reading Hood', the children have just introduced the wolf to our story and have been coming up with their own metaphors.

In Maths we have continued learning about length but how to solve words problems within length. We have had to use addition, subtraction, multiplication and division to solve these word problems which can be really tricky to understand when to use which method. We were even able to have a go at a two step question today where we used both subtraction and division. We were really impressed with the children whilst they tried to understand how a bar model can help represent our word problem. We practiced drawing our own to help us solve these tough questions.

We began our DT journey this week, where we will eventually be making baby bears chair. We discussed suitability of materials as well as stability. We looked at what shapes would make a good, secure base and what materials would be sturdy. Over the next couple of weeks we will be asking if you finish any cereal boxes of kitchen rolls to please send in to help us make our chairs at the end of term, thank you.

During Art we were looking at nature and what artists enjoy sketching in nature. We watched a David Attenborough documentary and paused at certain parts to allow the children to sketch something from the documentary. We kept on doing this until their pages were full of life! We were impressed with the different line techniques the children chose to use and how they chose to fill the gaps in their pages.

In Music we listened to the orchestra and the music they compose for different traditional tales. How the change in timbre can affect how the listener feels. The children then took it in turns to be the conductor and thought about the importance of this job within an orchestra.

Our computing lesson brought us fun with beebots, navigating round a picture board, challenging our friend to get from one spot to the other, exploring different algorithms. We also spent time practicing logging onto chromebooks and doing a bit of doodle.

We ended the week with some buddy time, we loved seeing our buddies and sharing some stories with them in the classroom and in the storytelling garden.

We hope you all have a lovely weekend,

Take care,

The Year 2 Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
