We have had another great week in school!  On Monday morning, Year 3 led our school's Harvest Assembly and the children enjoyed watching and listen to their friends in Year 3 explain what the Harvest celebration is all about.  In the afternoon, the children continued to think carefully about this subject, writing prayers to demonstrate their understanding of this important time of year, and showing thankfulness for all the food and drink that we have to eat and share.

This week, the children have been thinking a lot about geography and history: learning to read a map to navigate around school as a class, noting any 'landmarks' on their map of school, and showing each other how to use a 'key' to identify different parts of a map; in history, they have continued to think about different types of homes, going back in time with 'Magic Grandad' to see how people used to live many years ago!

We were amazed again this week with the children's exceptional drawing skills: using their sketch books and pencils to carefully sketch artefacts from the household; we were impressed with their use of light and shade and the amount of intricate detail they added to their drawings.  Both classes have been thinking a lot about 'old and new' especially with regards to household objects; they were a bit surprised to see how clothes were ironed many years ago, and definitely shocked to see how people used to take a bath!

On Wednesday afternoon after several days of very wet weather the sun shone brightly and the air was warm, just in time for both classes outdoor PE lessons!  The children continued to practise their football skills: dribbling, passing, and they even learned a few tricks and flicks courtesy of some very enthusiastic pupils keen to demonstrate their super skills!

On Thursday afternoon, the children were introduced to a new piece of the 'sportshall athletics' equipment: indoor curling!  They had a great time learning this new game and Mrs Groom was very excited to show them the rules and teaching them how to play - she has been itching to get the curling equipment out of the cupboard since the first day of term!

In Maths, last week the children amazed us with their determination to learn the 'Year 2 column method' for addition, and this week they have been just as focused and eager to learn how they can use a similar method for subtraction.  The children have used diennes, hundred squares and number lines to develop and deepen their mastery of this process before using the written method for subtraction - the children will be continuing to use these key skills throughout the year and will have lots of time for extra practice, but we have all been very impressed with the great start they have made with learning this complex mathematical process!

Enjoy the weekend, and we hope to see you all ready to go on Monday morning!

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
