Y2 Weekly Blog 22.11.24

Date: 22nd Nov 2024 @ 2:29pm

We have had another Christmassy week! Our Nativity is well under way now and the children are feeling confident delivering their lines. It's evident how much practicing the children have been doing at home, we are almost ready to ditch those scripts! Tickets and dates were sent home this week a long with any slips with costumes the children may need. If you haven't had one, don't panic! We have a lot of costumes in school already.

We have now moved onto to the second half of our topic which is 'Christmas Around the World', as you can imagine a very exciting topic! We began by looking at Christmas in Australia and Mexico. The children have been making their own 'Christmas Around the World' booklets, and have discovered many facts. The children were especially surprised to find out Australia is very hot on Christmas Day and people celebrate with a BBQ on the beach. We've also been hearing a lot of Feliz Navidad since discovering they speak Spanish in Mexico. We have also been using our geographic skills to look at a world map and name and label all 7 continents and oceans.

In English we have continued with our model write where our meerkat has discovered, snow, christmas trees and recieved his first Christmas present, a Christmas jumper. We have been focusing on adjectives this week to describe the snow, Christmas trees and how soft and cosy the Christmas jumper was. We have also been looking at time adverbials, so we ensure our postcard is sequenced correctly.

In Maths we have come to the end of times tables and we will be starting division next week. We have been practicing using our times tables to help us solve word problems. For homework this week we are asking if you can download DOODLE TIMES TABLES, where we have set some assignment so help consolidate our 2s,5s and 10s. We hope you have a lovely weekend,

The Year 2 Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
