What a great week we have had!
We have been busy continuing to write our stories of Little Red Reading Hood and are up to the part where the wolf devises a plan to gobble up Red! We have also continued our topic of measure during maths. The children have been learning to read scales including kg and g, select appropriate measures for different objects and compare masses using the vocabulary lighter than and heavier than. A trickier skill has been finding how much heavier/lighter objects are than others, using a subtraction calculation.
During DT, we continued to investigate different structures in the hope of finding a structure stable enough to use for Baby Bear’s chair. The children tested different shapes and their stability using books. We were surprised to find that the cylinder structure was the most stable and didn’t collapse even when 63 books were on top of it! The children then made their own cylinders and investigated stability deciding how many cylinder legs were best and how far apart they should be. We were very impressed!
We also had lots of fun creating algorithms during computing lessons and inputting our algorithms into the Beebot. The children investigated how the sequence and order of instructions is important for the final outcome and practised their logical thinking.
During RE, we continued to learn about Islam and Prophet Muhammad. The children listened to different stories of Prophet Muhammad including the Tiny Ants and The Crying Camel. We reflected on the meaning of the stories and what the stories of Prophet Muhammad teach Muslims. Lots of children concluded that we should be kind to animals and treat animals how we would like to be treated. During gymnastics, we practised travelling in pathways on our bottom, back and tummy in a triangular shape and practise our yoga skills when the rain was too heavy to go outside!
On Wednesday, the children enjoyed Cosmic Kids yoga and listening to different timbres and tempos in music.
Excitement was in the air for our Golden Ticket Celebrations on Thursday as the children enjoyed a well -deserved movie afternoons! They all looked very happy and cosy!
Have a lovely weekend.
