Another super week at St Luke’s

Firstly, please accept our apologies for last week’s missing Blog. We had an amazing day on Friday 8th November with Rock Kidz coming to school to get the children thinking about how they can be resilient when things are tough, and that it is the mistakes we make that help us succeed. We have uploaded some of the photos of the day.

On Monday, we joined the whole school for a moving and educational Remembrance Day service, led beautifully by our talented Year 6s. The children listened attentively and reflected thoughtfully during this special moment of remembrance.

Our topic surrounding our Solar System has ‘rocketed’ over the last two weeks and the children know lots about the 8 planets including why and how each planet moves. We also discussed how on Mars we would only have a birthday every 2 Earth Years, but on Mercury we could have 4 birthdays each Earth year! Next week we will be investigating night and day and why we have different seasons, yet the countries on the Equator only have one single season?????

On Thursday, we celebrated Anti Bullying week with a special assembly in the hall. The theme for this year is RESPECT and how we can be respectful to each other, and as Jesus said in the Book of Luke, “Treat people the way that you would like to be treated.” There was a sea of colourful odd socks around the school as we demonstrated and accepted our differences. In the afternoon, the children watched a live online lesson and created their own Anti Bullying themed poster.

To end the week, we came together as a school to celebrate Children in Need. The children and staff enjoyed wearing spotty or yellow mufti to support this great cause. It was a wonderful way to end the week, knowing we were making a difference for those in need.

Have a safe, restful and wonderful weekend, everybody.

The Year 5 Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
