We have continued our work on fractions this week in maths, with subtracting fractions and mixed numbers where the denominator is different and multiplying fractions with whole numbers. It is lovely to see so many confident children converting and simplifying fractions with ease.
This week, there has been a big focus on scientific experiments. We have used the parachute and heavy cardboard to prove the existence of air resistance and to feel its effect on our bodies. We then used this knowledge to investigate how air resistance affects parachutes and also paper, and how changing the surface area changes the force of the air resistance. (Please look at some of the photographs.) Children carefully planned the experiments, considering variables and fair testing, before conducting the experiments. They also recorded 3 sets of data and worked out median and mean averages to ensure anomalies did not affect data and used these results to create line graphs.
In English, children created their own similes and metaphors for the planets, turning them in to amazing poems for a fantastic wall display. We created a second wall display this week, using a poem from Corinthians 1 about love as a stimulus in RE.
