Y5 Blog 5.7.24

Date: 5th Jul 2024 @ 12:24pm

This week in Y5 we have had an action packed, very busy week with so many highlights.

It was Sports Day up at Range High and we really enjoyed taking part in the many races we competed in. As Luke said, “It is the taking part that counts, not the winning.” How true.

That was not the only time we visited Range High this week though. We also went for the culmination of our DT project this half term- making a delicious Bolognese sauce that we had modified to make healthier. We worked in groups of 4 to slice, chop, grate, stir and simmer our ingredients to create our sauces (see photos). The staff hope that they tasted as good as the cookery room smelt.

Another highlight was in science, where we continued comparing and contrasting life cycles. We were looking at the life cycle of birds and comparing and contrasting them to mammals, amphibians and insects. As a treat we brought the chicks up to Year 5 from Year 2 for the children to have a hold of and to help them to recall their learning before building upon it. All of the children got to hold the chicks, but unfortunately only photos of 5H are available to see.

This week was also our annual music Summer Concert. Over 80 KS2 children took part either playing an instrument or singing - with 1/3 of Y5 performing. We were so proud of them all.

We finished the week off with some Buddy time, where the children took part in a PE orienteering activity. It was lovely watching the our Y5's supporting their younger buddies with the map reading and exercises.

Have an enjoyable and safe weekend and we'll see you back on Monday for our last 'full' week of the year!

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
