What a super quick week it has been!
The children have settled back to school brilliantly and have been working hard in all lessons.
This week we began our first ‘write stuff’ writing topic looking at rhyming poetry. We We explored rhythm in poetry and researched annoying animals; brainstorming action words and rhyming words to create rhyming couplets.
e.g : The most infuriating creature in the world
is not the slug with its slimy body unfurled.
During PSHE are theme for this half term is friendship. The children learnt:
how to form and maintain positive relationships; to understand what makes a good friend and why friends are important.
In guided reading we extended our Maya knowledge and read the Maya creation story. They believed that we were once made from wet clay but weren’t hardy enough!
Talking of hardiness, during our outdoor basketball lesson, the children bravely endured some wet and blustery conditions as they honed their passing and moving skills.
In maths, the children have been comparing a range of numbers up to 1 million and using their extensive vocabulary whilst journaling.
In computing, we began our unit on ‘systems and searching’ and looked at how the Amazon locker system works. The children even had chance to design their own digital teddy bear system.
In PE, the children enjoyed choreographing their own actions for the five British values. Actions were chosen to create a whole class motif.
We studied the history of Maya writing through an orienteering quiz and the children enjoyed this outdoor learning experience.
In RE, the children had an opportunity to discuss important sayings made by Jesus and what they thought they meant to us. They ranked them in order of importance and decided which one was most special to them.
In Latin we have recapped on Latin verbs and how the endings determine who is doing the action.
In Art, the children began learning about typography and how it has evolved throughout the ages.
A very busy week but fun week of learning was had and we look forwards to another one next week, when we enter Week 3 of the new term.
Have a safe and enjoyable weekend.
The Year 5 Team.
