Year 1 Blog 17.01.25

Date: 17th Jan 2025 @ 1:47pm

Another busy and productive week in Year 1!

This week, we have enjoyed discussing chronology and the manufacture of different toys. We established that several toys, that are still played with today, were first made in the 1900s, in living memory. LEGO and Monopoly being just two of them.

As part of our topic on toys, we have considered what they are made from and appreciate that plastic is a newer material.

Next Thursday, as part of our Toys topic, the children will enjoy ‘Take a Teddy to School Day’. We will discuss the similarities and differences between them and gather relevant vocabulary in readiness for our write. A spider message has also been sent with further information regarding this.

During indoor PE, the children have been expanding their knowledge of different yoga poses. In outdoor PE, we have been practising throwing and catching a ball using the correct technique of underarm. The children ensured that they kept their eyes on the ball at all times!

We have also been discussing birds and the up and coming RSPB Bird Watch survey. For those interested, it commences, next Friday and continues over the weekend. all the details can be found on their website.

Take a look at the photographs capturing our very busy week!

Have a lovely weekend.

The Year One Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
