Year 1 Blog 23.6.23

Date: 23rd Jun 2023 @ 4:05pm

Friday 23rd June

Arts Week continued, and we welcomed more ‘experts in their field’ into Year 1 to come and engage with the children. The children took part in a drama workshop – we definitely have some budding actors amongst us!  Jennie Yarnell (our very own talented Mum artist) taught the children about Aboriginal dot art, they had a go themselves using Posca pens to create amazing sand lizards. As part of our art year 1 curriculum, the children combined their drawing and making skills to create their own bird sculpture, with an added challenge of making their sculpture balance and stand! There was lots of scope for experimentation and each bird is totally unique. In DT the children have started to construct their own windmills, making a stable structure to support a turbine.

On Thursday afternoon the children had football fun, with the ‘Soccer Star’ coaches and were all excited to receive their individual certificates and there were also trophies and ‘goody bags’ to add to the excitement!

What budding actors, designers, artists, engineers and sports stars we have in Year 1!

Enjoy looking at the photos and as always, don’t forget to use the ‘Home Learning’ button to find out what we have been learning in maths this week, and how you can support your child.

Next week, we can look forward to our beach trip on Wednesday 28th June (see Spider email for further details); as well as the opportunity to meet our Year 2 teacher and visit our classroom for September, during transition morning on Thursday 29th June.

Have a lovely weekend everyone.

The Year One Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
