Year 1 Blog 23.9.22

Date: 23rd Sep 2022 @ 4:12pm

Friday 23rdth September

This week, we completed some super science, thinking about our sense of touch. We thought about the fact that we can feel not only using our hands. We had fabulous fun on our touch tiles, using our feet to feel each one and describe it. The children then enjoyed time playing with our smell and touch sensory guessing games.

We went on to think about our emotional feelings too and discussed how both our expression and posture can help us understand how another person is feeling. The children came up with some great top tips for helping someone who may be feeling sad.

We had fun thinking about the number 22 and explored different ways to use equipment to represent it. In the week ahead, we will focus on the number 23, during Maths sessions.

Next week, we look forward to our Triathlon on Monday and Tuesday. Also, thinking about fruit and vegetables in advance of us creating our own smoothies.

As promised, last Wednesday, you will find the information about the two phonic meetings below. Also, for those of you who did not purchase a RWI Set2 and Set3 pack of phonic cards, while in Reception, they are still available to buy via the school Spider. They cost £5.50 and are an updated version of the original pack. They are a wonderful resource to have when supporting the development of your child’s phonic knowledge. It is a resource we use daily in school.

Tuesday 27th September– Phonics Workshop with Miss O’Neill and Miss Hesketh in the hall at 2:30pm.

Thursday 6th October – How to support your child with RWI phonics drop in. This session is with Mrs. Fegan at 2.30pm in the Green room.

We look forward to seeing you there.

We hope you have a wonderful weekend.

The Year One Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
