Year 2 Blog 11.10.24

Date: 11th Oct 2024 @ 4:26pm

We have had a lovely, busy week in Year 2!

In English, we have finished our modelled write and have started planning our own stories of the adventures of our chosen animal in Paris! The children have been working hard, thinking about different vocabuarly and grammar to use. We are excited to start writing our stories sometime next week.

During computing this week, the children choose a device and created a poster showing everything they could use it for, including the rules for using it safely, looking back at what we have been discussing this term.

On Thursday it was World Mental Health Day and we spent the afternoon doing mindful activities, such as mindful colouring, making a zen den and thinking about and doing the things we enjoy.

In Art the children took to their sketchbooks and looked at the different techniques we have been practicing over this term, they then used charcoal, pens and pencils to create different leaf affects, we were really impressed with the fine details the children added and the effect they created practising their new sketching skills.

This weeks outdoor games had us practicing our throwing skills, focusing on underarm and overarm throw. The children really enjoyed putting these skills into practice with a few point collecting games.

In music was this week, we worked in groups to create our own composition soundscape of either the city, countryside or seaside for our audience to guess. We had to ensure we had a beginning, middle and end and a varietion of dynamics and timbre. We have really enjoyed our musical journey so far!

We hope you have a lovely weekend,

The Year 2 Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
