Year 2 Blog 14.3.25

Date: 14th Mar 2025 @ 4:09pm

We have had a super tastic week in year 2! We are really getting into our modelled write of Supertato, the children have been thinking about all the mischief Evil Pea is up to in the supermarket. We've focussed our grammar this week on alliteration, dialogue, verbs and onamatopeias. We have one more week with our modelled write, where the children will be coming up with solutions for how to capture Evil Pea and save Supertato, then we will be starting our own Superhero story.

In Maths we have continued looking at money, how to count coins and notes and how to write the amounts of money. The children are now working on how to show an amount of money in various ways. We have sent a home learning task home for money, please see the home learning tab for more information.

We've had an exciting week in computing. The children have been practicing their photography skills and this week we looked at lighting. We spoke about natural lighting and how we can add our own lighting to a picture. The children then practiced taking pictures with a torch to add lighting. They have now taken their final pictures and are in the editing process. Most of the children have had the chance to sit down on the computer and edit their own photo. Any children who haven't will be doing so on Monday. We are so impressed with both the photography skills and editing skills, we have lots of wonderful final pictures. When the children were taking their pictures we asked them to take a selfie first so we could identify their picture. Some of them found their own selfie so funny so they asked if I could share some on the blog pictures.

During topic we have been looking at more real life superheroes, Greta Thunberg and Malala Yousafzai.

We have started looking at Easter in RE and we gave the children to opportunity to tell how what they remember of the Easter story, by sequencing the Easter story.

The children ended the week making a road safety poster, highlighting the importance of being safe when walking on the path, crossing the road and riding in a car.

We hope you all have a lovely weekend,

The Year 2 Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
