Year 2 Blog 14.6.24

Date: 14th Jun 2024 @ 1:54pm

We've had a wonderful week in Year 2, diving right into this terms, A Walk on the Wildside. This week we discussed microhabitats, and where we could find some around school and what might live there. We found lots and lots of bugs and insects in our school garden, particuarly hidden under the logs. The children really enjoyed exploring the microhabitats bug hunting! We made tally charts of everything we found and when we came back into the classroom we put all our data onto a pictogram.

The children absolutely loved the highlight of our week - Stick transformation project! We had 3 fun filled afternoons designing what our sticks would look like and wear, picking different wool colours and then making them. The children worked so hard and really took their time ensuring they didn't get tangled up - a lot easier said than done!

During Music we have been practicing creating a short rhythm in the style of a western africa call out. We have looked at what animals we would find during safari and what noises they might make. We then thought about the different instruments that could replicate these noises.

In English this week we have been practicing our comprehension skills. The children have been reading through texts and then answering questions about the text. The children are working really hard to find key points in the text, understand how characters are feeling, predict what might happen next and also sequence the events from the texts.

In Maths we have been working on our arithmetic skills, consolidating our column method and peas on a plate. We've also been looking a selection of money, measurement and mixed word problems, getting the children to focus on when to use which appropiate method.

We hope you all have a lovely weekend,

The Year 2 Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
