This term is absolutely flying and we are having so much fun in Year 2.

This week we were attacked by the Evil Pea who froze some of our superhero friends. The children worked together to unfreeze them but decided it wasn't a fair test, the containers were all different sizes, the superheroes different sizes and different methods were used. We agreed that changing only one variable would make it a fair test. It's as though Evil Pea heard our whole lesson because the following day he had struck again! This time he froze lots of jelly babies! The children again worked together to decide the best place to leave our jelly babies to melt. We had the cupboard, outside, in the classroom and on the radiator. The children made predictions and then observed the jelly babies melting. The children loved getting practical with the science experiements. We also looked at material properties, looking at what materials we can bend, squash, stretch and twist.

In English we came to the end of our modelled write and today the children thought about who their superhero was going to be in their own story. Some of the children also designed the villain of their story. We will then begin planning our independent stories on Monday.

This week's Maths we have continued focusing on money, which we are all finding a bit tricky, especially giving change. We will continue to work practically on this next week in our afternoons but any extra practice at home would be great.

During RE we have moved onto looking at Easter and the children learnt about the Paschal Candle, then they designed their own including something important to them.

We began our DT project this week, explaining to the children on Superhero Day we will be making moving monsters. The children designed their monster head and we learnt about linkages that will keep our monster together and make it move.

We hope you have a lovely weekend and the sun keeps shining!

Take care,

The Year 2 Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
