22.1.21

We hope that you have all had a good week! We have really enjoyed seeing and speaking to the children online, even if it is just a quick hello or goodbye! We have also really enjoyed seeing some of the children’s work. Remember, if you have the time please do forward photographs of any work to [email protected] .

We would also like to remind you of some of the great websites available to the children:

Oxford Owls- this website supports reading and spelling. It has lots of great e-books, some of which have online activities. The children can also choose to listen to the audio version. A new feature is Word Sparks which contains books that have been designed to be read with an adult. So, an adult (or you can choose to play the audio) reads the adult page, which contains richer and more complex language and then the child reads the child’s page, a great way to share the reading.

Educationcity – a super website that covers the Maths, English and Science curriculum. Children can access lots of activities and games, including ‘play live’ where they can meet classmates and compete against each other!  Next week an assessment (place value) has been set on Educationcity. It can be found in the classwork folder. The assessment consists of 15 questions, please let your child work through them independently as once the assessment is complete it will generate a revision journal (activities) based on incorrect responses, which can then be accessed by your child.

Easimaths – a very good Maths website, that gives a broad coverage of the Year 2 Maths curriculum. We would recommend accessing this website on a daily basis for a 10-15 minute session. If you feel that the content is too easy or too hard please let us know via the Y2 email and we can adjust the settings for your child.

TTRockstars & Numbots – again another great Maths website, especially to help your child learn number facts and times tables in a fun way.

EARLY WARNING!! – W/c 1.2.21 & W/c 8.2.21 as part of our DT and English we are planning to cover the story ‘The Gingerbread Man’. This involves the children tasting different ginger products and designing and then making a gingerbread man. In school we would normally taste 4 different products but under current circumstances we are suggesting only 2 (but feel free to taste more). The easiest products to get hold of are McVities mini gingerbread men, which are usually sold in small bags and any gingernut biscuits. The children will taste and evaluate the products as part of a DT lesson. W/c 1.2.21 they will also design their gingerbread man. The gingerbread man will be made w/c 8.2.21 so any decorations the children have incorporated in their design will need to be made available to them. We will post a recipe for the gingerbread man this week to allow time to get the ingredients.

Lastly, a thank you for all your hard work and support!

Take care

The Year 2 team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
