We have had another great week in Year 2! Thank you to all who attended the 'Welcome' meetings this week.
During geography, we explored where we live, starting with the World, continent, country, county, city and then went onto explore Formby in more detail. The children were fabulous at explaining why Formby was a great place to live from prehistoric footprints on the beach to the World's first lifeboat station, National Trust space, red squirrels and Naterjack toads! We also considered how we can care for our environment and the impact recycling has by exploring and discussing the book ' A planet full of plastic'.
During Computing, we reinforced our knowledge of what information technology is and found lots of examples around our school such as the printer, sign in screens and chromebooks. The children enjoyed sharing their favourite things to use information technology for and practised logging in and out of the Chromebooks.
Taking advantage of nature, the children became explorers and collected natural objects. As artists , the children used different drawing styles to draw some of these objects using different media. We were impressed with the children's continuous line and 'feely' drawings!
We were rained off for Outdoor games, but took the opportunity to practise 3-3-3 speed stacking. A lot of noise, but a lot of fun for all! In gymnastics, the children impressed with their straight line and zig zag travels and body shapes. We were impressed with all the creative sequences and how the children navigated the apparatus.
We continued to learn about Judaism and explored the Jewish celebration of Shabbat. The children were able to reflect on their special family days and enjoyed sharing their experiences with the class. We also explored how we belong in our school community, families, friendship groups and clubs.
This week's music lesson saw us explore music of the Bristish Isles, focussing in on the theme 'city'. The children enjoyed singing'London Bridge is falling down' and were able to create their own city soundscapes using instruments, their voices and body percussion.
During English lessons, we have been looking and the structure and 'shape' of persuasive writing and have been working on our persuasion skills. The children were shocked to discover that, just like in the story 'The Day the Crayons Quit', our felt tip pens had quit too as they had had enough of being treated badly! The children are going to work together next week to write a persuasive letter to convince the felt tip pens that they are sorry for treating them badly and to persuade them to return!
Take a look at this week's Home Learning blog for more information about this week's maths learning and Home Learning tasks. There are some links for games on there that are useful!
Have a great weekend,
The Year Two Team
