Another fun packed week in Year 2!

On Monday during computing we were discovering how technology is used around the world, from schools, to homes to air traffic control.

In History we have been looking at how Formby has changed over time, which included creating a timeline of when our houses were built so we could see how our houses have adapted over the years. We even found out that someone's house used to be a fire station! We then compared modern new build houses to those built a long time ago, pin pointing the different features, appearance and what they might be made from. This also led us on to look at old artefacts, like irons and cameras and how these have changed over the years also.

During Art we continued our sketching journey and have been sketching leaves, focusing on the detail and different textures.

We introduced the celebration of Chanukah (or Hanukah) to the children this week, looking at why Jewish people celebrate the festival of lights each year and thinking about what miracles occured.

In Music we have been composing our own soundscapes to the country/city/seaside in groups this week, some of us used instruments, some of us body and voice percussion. We created a small piece and then challeneged the rest of the class to see what location we were representing.

We ended the week discussing cycle to school week and why it is an important challenge. We spoke about the impacts to the planet and also where we love to go on our bikes! We had a look on google maps at different places we could visit with our friends/family for a bike ride.

We hope you all have a lovely weekend,

The Year 2 Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
