Year 2 Blog 31.1.25

Date: 31st Jan 2025 @ 2:41pm

We have had a lovely week in year 2! We have enjoyed sharing different traditional tales and thinking about how we could mix them up to create a new story. The children really enjoyed imagining their own storytale, we had some very creative ideas of Little Red Riding Hood going to the three bears house, The Wolf tracking down Puss in Boots and Jack pricking his finger on a needle and falling into a deep sleep. This is all in preperation for when we come to write our own version of Little Red Reading Hood.

Continuing with our topic, we started designing our DT project, Baby Bear's Chair. The children thought about what materials they would like to use, what struture would be the most stable and decided a cyclinder has no weak corners and would be the most suitable. The children are going to be making their chairs next Thursday.

In Maths this week we have moved on to look at Picture Graphs. The children have started to read the information from the pictogram and are now working on how to find the difference between two items. We will be doing more on this next week. For more information on the maths and home learning, please visit the home learning tab.

In Art the children were practicing their small, detailed drawings, whilst sketching small objects like safety pins, coins, lego, paperclips etc. The children really took their time and paid attention to the finer details that help create texture.

During RE we continued discussing Muslims and we asked the children to think about where their special place was. We had lots of lovely answers from their bedrooms, homes, holiday destinations to grandma's house. We spoke about why these places are special to use and shared with our friends. We then thought about where a Muslims special place might be and began looking at a Mosque. The children were very interested to find out how many mosques were in Liverpool and around our area. We looked at lots of photos of Mosques and found some very beautiful ones! We discussed why this is a special place and looked at all the different things in a mosque. We will be continuing this next week.

The children are really enjoying computing this term, continuing to learn and predict algorithmns. The children had their own mats and had different prediction activities with their friend and a beebots. They had to challenge each other to get to a certain position on the map using an algorithm, as well as following their friends algorthims and predicting where they would end up. Lots of fun was had with these activities!

We discussed the difference between secrets and surprises in PSHE today, we were able to understand how secrets could make us feel quite upset, worried, confused, anxious and surprises make us feel happy, surprised, amazed and overall positive feelings.

We hope you all have a wonderful weekend,

The Year 2 Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
