Year 2 Blog 7.3.25

Date: 7th Mar 2025 @ 4:28pm

What a lovely week we have had in Year 2 with lots of added excitment yesterday.

The children are really enjoying our Superheroes topic as you can imagine! We have began our modelled write of Supertato! A firm favourite so far. Every day the children are looking at a new grammar focus to help enhance their writing. This week it's been alliteration, compound words, question and dialogue. As you can imagine, ideas are already spinning of thoughts for when they come to write their own superhero story.

In Maths we have finished fractions and have moved on to Money. The children spent time this week recapping what they had learnt in year one by identifying different coins and notes and then moved on to writing amounts of money. We will be continuing with Money next week.

During Art the children had peaceful time to sketch spring flowers and plants as practice for when they sketch daffodils on a larger scale next week. Our computing unit this term is photography so the children have been practicing taking different photographs on the ipads. We looked at the difference between portrait and landscape and when we use either. The children then practiced taking portrait photographs of superhero figures and then landscape photos of their friends dressed as a superhero.

As part of our topic we are also looking at real life superheroes. This week we looked at Helen Sharman, who is a British astronaut and the first British person to visit space. The children made a fact file about their favourite Helen facts!

In RE we are coming to the end of our Muslim topic and the children have been learning about Ramadam and Eid al fitr. The children were fascinated to learn all about fasting and we spoke about why Muslims fast and how difficult we would find it ourselves and how we can all take for granted our three meals a day.

We of course had lots of World Book Day fun! The children all looked fabulous, we loved learning about their favourite book and where they got inspirtation for their costumes. We had fun book sharing with our friends and even had a secret storyteller come in the afternoon!

In PSHE we spoke about road safety and how important it is to be safe when either walking or travelling in a car. The children made some very thoughtful points during this discussion and we were relieved to see the amount of knowledge they already knew about this.

We hope you have a lovely weekend,

The Year 2 Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
