What a super, busy week we have had in Year 2!
This week, we continued to think about ‘real life superheroes’ with a focus on learning about Greta Thunberg. The children were inspired to talk about climate change and how they could make a difference to the world after learning that Greta used to strike from school each Friday to protest and raise awareness about climate change and talked to world leaders and told them to ‘stop making excuses’. Did you know that she also crossed the ocean on a wind and solar powered boat?
The children also have also had lots of time enjoying and discussing a variety of books and developing their love of reading. World Book Day brought lots of excitement as the children discussed different book characters and had time to share their favourite stories. We were very impressed with all the costumes! We were also lucky to have a visit from the author Alicia Everett who wrote the story ‘Oggy and the Fuzzlehog’. The children asked great questions and had the opportunity to draw the Fuzzlehogs. The children recognised the characters as we have them printed on the wall of Blue library! We also took part in the BBC Live Lesson on World Book Day, where we practised distinguishing between fiction and non-fiction. We spent time reading and finding facts out about some of our favourite superheroes in the book ‘Calling all Superheroes!’.
During PE, the children began to learn bowling skills for cricket and also continued to create actions to add to our ‘under the sea’ dance. Lots of great diving dolphin actions and wiggly jellyfish!
During Computing lessons, we have continued to develop our photography skills. The children practised ‘framing’ their photographs and improving the quality of their photographs. Already we have some impressive photographs of close up superheroes and flying superhero friends! We can’t wait to see the final photographs over the next few weeks.
During RE, we discussed the meaning behind Easter and began to retell key parts of the Easter story. Next week, we will be discussing symbols of Easter. The children have been very observant noticing signs of new life already e.g. daffodils and blossom on some trees.
We hope you all have a wonderful weekend and look forward to science week next week!
