Year 2 Blog

It's been a busy week for year 2, lots going on as we draw to the end of the term. In computing this week the children designed their own beebot mat to use, they had to include two different algorthims to get from start to finish with some barriers along the way. We have some lovely different themes from space, to transport to fairytales! The children will be testing them out next week, checking their algortihms work and if any debugging is required.
During Art we looked at artist X'agaoco X'are from Botswana who is famous for his monoprinting of animals and nature. The children created a page about him in their sketchbooks and thought how they could take inspiration from his work. Next week we will be monoprinting different animals and the children have picked their animal ready for this.
In English we finished our guided write and have begun planning our independent fairy tale story. We have had lots of fabulous ideas already and we cannot wait to see the finished version.
In Maths we have finished this week looking at pictograms and are now moving on to fractions. For more information on Maths, please see the home learning tab.
We had an exciting afternoon on Thursday where the children had free range to create Baby Bear's chair. They spent a whole afternoon thinking how to make a secure and stable chair for Baby Bear. Baby Bear tested out each chair and we have a mixture of those who stayed up and whose fell. We ensured the children this is all part of the learning process and when they come to do their evaluations they can think how they could improve it for next time.
Then we finished the week with number day! We spent the day getting involved with different maths activities like TTRockstars, who wants to be a millionarie, a scavenger hunt and a crack the secret code. We had great fun and it was brilliant to see all the children dressed up.
Have a lovely weekend,
The Year 2 Team
