Year 2 blog

Date: 14th Feb 2025 @ 6:31am

What a fun first term of 2025 we have had!
This week we have dived into learning about fractions. The children understand a fraction is a part of a whole and is made up of equal parts. We have looked at halves, quarters and thirds. We have explained the difference between the denominator and numerator and what they both represent.

In English the children have been busy writing their own traditional tales with a twist, so far we have seen Cinderella meeting the wolf, Jack reading his favourite book in the woods and The Gingerbread Man running away from the Wicked Witch.

We finished our computing unit testing out our own maps, and then using our debugging skills to fix any broken algorithms. Whilst in gymnastics we finished our unit creating a six piece sequence full of balances, twists and spins.

We also had a lovely afternoon getting creative in Art, making our own mono prints inspired by the artist X'agoco X'are. The children really took their time exploring the different details and they came out fabulous and have made a display up in our main corridor.

We hope you all have a well deserved rest over half term and we look forward to seeing all the children next term for Superheroes!

Take care,

The Year 2 Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
