Year 2 weekly blog 10.1.25

Date: 10th Jan 2025 @ 6:44am

Welcome back! We hope you all had a magical Christmas and New Years. It's been lovely having the children back hearing what they got up to over the holidays.

We have kicked off this term with our new topic 'Once upon a time' a personal favourite! We started the week embracing our love of reading by creating reading dens which the children absolutely loved! We got cosy with our blankets, finding that perfect reading spot and shared our favourite books with friends. We discussed where we enjoy reading the most and where around school and at home we could create somewhere comfortable to read. This brought us nicely on to our English book for this term 'Little Red Reading Hood', a beautiful story with a twist on the modern traditional tale. Little Red Reading Hood loves reading and reads everywhere! We have also started looking at a variation of traditional tales and the children used this as inspirition to create their topic covers. We played a fun quiz of guess the tale and then guess the character and it was amazing to see how well the children already know the stories! We went on to look at common themes of a traditional tale.

In Maths the children have began looking at length, measuring in cm and m and comparing different lengths. We were so impressed with how stuck in the children got finding different objects around the classroom to measure and knowing when it was appropriate to measure in cm or m.

During RE we began looking at Muslims and who God is to them. We spoke about how Muslims believe God is like the air in a balloon, without the air the balloon doesn't work. We then discussed where God is and why we can't see him. We compared God to air and electricity, things we know are there but cannot see with our eyes. We then encouraged the children to get creative and make a picture using watercolours, pastels and pencils represented 'where is God'. We had some lovely artworks of hearts, the world, the sky, the clouds and church. Some of the children voiced that God is everywhere.

We hope you all have a lovely weekend and keep warm!

Take care,

The Year 2 Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
