Year 2 Weekly Blog (11. 3. 22)
Date: 8th Mar 2022 @ 2:27pm
This week in Year 2, the children have been continuing to further their computing knowledge, exploring shape in maths and investigated different materials in science.
On Monday, the classes enjoyed another music lesson; 2G were exploring sounds of the city and 2M were thinking about sounds that they might hear in the countryside. Both classes created a soundscape using musical instruments and their bodies to make sounds that they might hear in those places, and also continued to practise singing traditional folk songs; they sang a new one (which they already seemed to know!) 'London Bridge is falling down'.
In computing, the children used another Google web application to further their understanding of how algorithms work - thinking about how loops work, and how they can be used to simplify an algorithm's instructions.
In Maths, the children have finished learning about money and started to focus on a new topic: shape! The children have impressed us with what they already know, and also how quickly they understood how to use a mirror to investigate shapes that are symmetrical and not.
Throughout the week, the children have also been thinking about different women who 'changed the world'; in English, some children have been reading about Mary Seacole and Florence Nightingale, and on Thursday's class worship, the children learned about Marie Curie.
In science, the children have been investgating different materials; on Tuesday, the children looked at how objects look different under a microscope and then explored their classroom environment to find objects made from different types of materials (metal, wood, plastic).
We hope you all have a nice weekend and look forward to seeing you all again on Monday morning!
