Year 2 Weekly Blog 15.3.24

Date: 13th Mar 2024 @ 11:36am

We've had a very exciting week in Year 2, with Science week taking over! The children were amazed with the live lesson showing them what a day as a farmer is like. We learnt so much about the animals, the plants and realised how busy a farmer really is! We then had a 'Silly Science' session which the children loved, lots of fun experiments! During our own science lessons we discussed fair and unfair experiements. Our first experiement the children realised wasn't fair when they had to unfreeze different size superhereos in different size containers. We discussed how we need to keep all the variables the same to make it fair. But EVIL TEACHER struck again the next day freezing all the jelly babies! The children then worked in groups choosing where to place their jelly babies to melt the ice the quickest. We had a lot of fun with this!

During English we have come to the end of our modelled superhero story. The children have been thinking very hard about what problem their superhero would have and what the solution would be to save the day! The childrene ended the week creating their own superhero character. We will begin planning our own superhero story next week!

In Maths we have been looking at 2D shape, identifying shapes, edges, verticies and also if a shape is symmetrical and looking at how many lines of symmetry it has. We have set some shape activities on Doodle for the children to have a go at.

In Outdoor games we have been practicing our striking skills, the children have been practicing bowling and catching, batting and fielding, getting ready for a small game of cricket.

This week in RE we have been looking at symbols of Easter, the children discussed this and drew beautiful pictures of different symbols, such as daffodils, a cross, hot cross buns, easter eggs etc. In PSHE we have been discussing different families and how we are all unique and every family is special.

We hope you have a wonderful weekend,

The Year 2 Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
